BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A Canadian man is facing charges stemming from an try to smuggle 226 pounds (102.51 kilograms) of marijuana into the United States from Canada in the town of North Troy, federal prosecutors stated Tuesday.
The court documents filed in U.S. District Court in Burlington stated two Border Patrol agents have been watching a spot in the woods along the Vermont border with Quebec at about 7:45 p.m. Monday when they very first heard and then saw 3 guys carrying significant backpacks.
When the guys have been about 40 feet from the agents the suspects dropped the backpacks and ran back toward Canada.
The Border Patrol agents pursued the subjects. Immediately after identifying themselves as agents, 1 agent fire a taser that incapacitated a suspect later identified as Scott Allen Cameron, the Border Patrol stated.
Cameron complained of nausea and he was treated and released from the North Nation hospital in Newport.
Prosecutors filed a motion Monday asking that Cameron be held till trial.
It could not right away be determined if Cameron has an lawyer.
There was also a marijuana smuggling incident in the similar region on June 22, according to court papers.
